Enka no Joou tells the bittersweet story of Himawari, an unsuccessful 39-year-old enka singer who constantly faces terrible luck with both men and money. Raised in an Osaka takoyaki shop, young Himawari developed a deep love for enka music, inspired by her father's encouragement. However, tragedy strikes at age 13 when her father suddenly disappears. Her bitter mother eventually remarries, but Himawari struggles deeply to adjust to her new father and brother. Holding onto her father's inspiring words that she is the number one singer in all of Japan, Himawari leaves for Tokyo immediately after graduating high school to make her official debut. This emotional drama follows her relentless journey to find success, overcome her painful family past, and finally achieve her dreams against all odds.
