Beauty or Beast is a delightful comedy-drama centering on the clash between two completely opposite television professionals at JBC Television in Japan. Takamiya Makoto, played by Matsushima Nanako, is a highly ambitious Tokyo University law graduate and Harvard MBA who has worked as a news reporter in the United States. Scouted in Paris to rescue JBC Television's failing ratings, Makoto believes high viewer ratings are the ultimate meaning of life. On the other hand, Nagase Hiromi, played by Fukuyama Masaharu, is transferred to the News Department from the Variety Department after multiple scandals, fights, and kickbacks. For Hiromi, a successful program is merely a tool to enjoy life to the fullest. When these two contrasting personalities are forced to work together in the high-stakes News Department, sparks fly. Despite their drastically different philosophies, they gradually reach a mutual understanding. This adult comedy explores their professional battles, rating-driven ambitions, and unexpected chemistry as they try to save the news channel.
