In the early 1990s, a young man from Northern Shaanxi, known as "often happy," leaves home for Beijing. Driven by a secret admiration for a Beijing head teacher's words and carrying just 500 yuan, he abandons his college entrance exam. His simple dreams involve seeing the iconic Tiananmen, finding a Beijing girl to marry, and returning home a success.

However, "often happy"'s journey to Tiananmen is plagued with setbacks. A bizarre incident involving a woman rescuing a "silly fool" leads to an immediate, inexplicable clash with a Beijing girl named Li Wei. As a "North drift," "often happy" faces immense hardships, struggling to realize his ambitions.
