Dust-Man (2020)

Dust-Man (2020)

Other name: 더스트 맨, Deoseuteumaen

Description:

DUSTMAN centers on Tae San, a homeless man living with Mr. Kim and Do Joon amidst the regular dust alarms of Seoul Station. He carries a profound, unhealed past trauma, hinted at by cuts on his arms and sporadic disturbing images, suggesting a history associated with suicide. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Moa, an art student. Together, they start creating unique "dust art" on dusty cars, transforming neglected surfaces into captivating visual stories.

These impromptu artworks quickly gain widespread attention and become widely known through social media. As Tae San immerses himself in the creative process, he gradually confronts his past. The dust drawings become a powerful medium for him to process and eventually overcome his deep-seated trauma, leading to a profound shift in his outlook on life. The film poignantly uses Tae San’s explanation of the Tyndall phenomenon to illustrate that homeless life and dust art are intrinsically linked: even seemingly invisible beings have compelling stories to share. DUSTMAN delivers a powerful message about art’s ability to project hope, not only onto a world covered with dust but also into the heart of the artist themselves, leading to freedom and recovery.
