A Room of One’s Own follows young couple Quiney and Chen Feng as they begin their new chapter in a new apartment, only to be confronted by a giant, puzzling red mattress. Quiney immediately wants the eyesore removed, seeing it as an impediment to her personal space and order. Chen Feng, however, is perfectly content to leave it exactly where it is. This seemingly minor domestic disagreement quickly evolves into a profound metaphor for their diverging outlooks on life and the growing cracks in their relationship.

As Chen Feng's increasing laziness begins to infringe upon Quiney's sense of freedom and control over her own environment, the apartment transforms from a shared home into a contested space. The relationship steadily spirals into toxicity, leaving Quiney feeling suffocated and trapped by her partner's inertia. The persistent presence of the giant red mattress becomes a stark symbol of her diminishing autonomy. Ultimately, Quiney realizes that to reclaim her life and her room, a significant part of her current reality – be it the mattress or the relationship itself – must be decisively discarded.
