Winter Sonata tells a poignant story of love, fate, and tragic loss. It begins when Joonsang transfers to a new high school to find his biological father. He meets Yujin, whose childhood friend Sanghyuk harbors unrequited romantic feelings for her. During a trip with classmates Oh Chelin, Jinsuk, and Yongkuk, Joonsang saves Yujin from a dangerous accident. This event brings them close, allowing Yujin to melt Joonsang's cold exterior, and they fall deeply in love. However, cruel circumstances tear them apart when Joonsang suddenly disappears. Ten years later, the high school friends reunite to celebrate the upcoming wedding of Yujin and Sanghyuk. Despite the passage of time, Yujin still longs for her lost first love, Joonsang. The emotional stability of the group is shattered at the party when Oh Chelin arrives with her new boyfriend, who looks exactly like the long-lost Joonsang, reopening old wounds and unresolved feelings.
