In the heartwarming movie Wasao, a big furry white Akita dog wanders into the town of Ajigasawa, Aomori, within view of the beautiful Shirakami Mountain Range. Tired and exhausted, the loyal dog has actually travelled all the way from Tokyo to find its owner. The wandering Akita soon runs into Setsuko Kikuya, portrayed by Hiroko Yakushimaru, the friendly owner of a local squid restaurant. At first, the independent dog does not seem to follow anybody and has a mysterious habit of appearing and disappearing. However, through several local occasions like the Nebutsu Festival and the challenging Ajigasawa Triathlon Event, the relationship between Tetsuko and the Akita dog becomes much closer. Wasao is an emotional, family-friendly film that highlights the incredible, unspoken connection between humans and animals.
