Set in the ferocious Gobi Desert, the action adventure film Warriors of Heaven and Earth follows two master swordsmen on opposing sides of duty and honor. Lieutenant Li is a renegade Chinese soldier wanted for mutiny after refusing to execute women and child prisoners. Lai Xi, a skilled Japanese emissary, is promised a return to his homeland only if he captures and executes Li. However, their ultimate duel is postponed when they cross paths with a caravan. The caravan carries Wen Zhu and a Buddhist monk who possesses a sacred, powerful pagoda. This mystical artifact attracts the attention of Master An, a ruthless local overlord. To protect the caravan from Master Ans brutal forces and dangerous desert bandits, Lai Xi and Lieutenant Li must form an uneasy alliance. Joined by Lis loyal former soldiers, the two rival warriors must survive the cruel desert and defeat the overlord before they can finally face each other in their final battle of honor.
