Description:

Virtues of Harmony introduces the esteemed Kam family, proprietors of a renowned noodle restaurant, led by matriarch Yau Nim Chi and her arrogant younger brother. When Princess Sam Tin comes of age, the emperor holds a contest for her hand in marriage. Nim Chi's eldest son, Kam Nin, a promising scholar, is forced to participate. His candid poem, criticizing the princess's naivety, angers her, leading to his demotion and reassignment as a lowly magistrate in his hometown.

Meanwhile, displeased with an arranged marriage to a Persian prince, Princess Sam Tin escapes the palace with her eunuch, coincidentally arriving in the same town. There, she vandalizes an unflattering statue of herself, leading to a court trial before Magistrate Nin, who remains oblivious to her true identity. Using the invented name Kung Yanso, she is warmly mistaken by Nim Chi for the daughter of a family savior and welcomed into the Kam household, where she and her eunuch begin their community service as punishment.
