Uta no Onii-san follows Kenta, a talented but unlucky young musician whose life takes a drastic turn for the worse. After his band abruptly breaks up, leaving his aspirations in tatters, he faces further heartbreak when his girlfriend leaves him. To compound his struggles, Kenta's own family offers little support, openly labeling him as useless.

At his absolute lowest point, Kenta unexpectedly lands a peculiar new job. He becomes an "uta no oniisan," a singing character, on "Minna de Utao," an unconventional and unique children's television show.
