In the highly anticipated sequel Thermae Romae II, famous ancient Rome bathhouse architect Lucius, played by Hiroshi Abe, faces a challenging new mission. He is tasked with building a therapeutic thermae in the Colosseum to help injured gladiators recover. Struggling with the design, Lucius once again travels through a time slip to modern day Japan. There, he reunites with Manami, played by Aya Ueto, who now works as a reporter for a bathroom magazine. Guided by the unique insights of the flat face Japanese tribe, Lucius gathers innovative ideas for his new project. Meanwhile, back in Rome, political trouble brews. Emperor Hadrian, played by Masachika Ichimura, seeks to preserve peace through bathhouses, but the aggressive Senate pushes to expand Roman territory by force. As a major confrontation divides Rome, Lucius must use his newfound bathhouse designs to help restore harmony to the empire.
