Set in the early 1990s after the Persian Gulf War, The Wonderful World of Captain Kuhio follows a charismatic 30-year-old marriage swindler who masquerades as Colonel Kuhio, a pilot for an American Special Unit. To charm his victims, he falsely claims to be the offspring of King Kamehameha I of Hawaii and a relative of Queen Elizabeth of England. His current target is Shinobu Nagano, played by Yasuko Matsuyuki, a bento box shop owner who accepts his marriage proposal, lured by promises of a wedding dress from Princess Diana’s designer. However, the deceptive con man is already eyeing his next target, Haru Yasuoka, played by Hikari Mitsushima, a museum worker whose attention he easily captures. As he juggles these elaborate lies, he crosses paths with Michiko Sado, played by Yuko Nakamura, the number one hostess of Ginza. Michiko might be the only woman clever enough to challenge Colonel Kuhio and give him a run for his money.
