In the horror thriller The Wailing, a seemingly peaceful village is suddenly plagued by a wave of mysterious and violent deaths. While the police conclude that poisonous wild mushrooms caused these tragedies, police officer Jong Goo suspects a darker force is at play. He hears a rumor from a coworker about a mysterious Japanese man living nearby. Jong Goo's fears grow after meeting Moo Myeong, who claims she saw the Japanese man at the latest death scene. The horror hits home when his daughter, Hyo Jin, comes down with the same crazed symptoms as the previous victims. Determined to save her, Jong Goo journeys into the mountains to find the Japanese man's home. Meanwhile, his mother-in-law calls in a shaman named Il Gwang to perform an exorcism on Hyo Jin as death lingers in the air.
