The Sun (JP 2016) transports audiences to an early 21st century ravaged by a catastrophic bio terror attack that has decimated the global population. Humanity has fractured into two distinct groups. The Nokusu are survivors who, after contracting a virus, developed antibodies, leading to high intelligence and vitality, but also an extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet rays, compelling them to live nocturnally. Contrasting them are the Kyurio, individuals who miraculously avoided infection entirely. A profound social chasm separates these groups, with the Nokusu openly discriminating against the Kyurio. The narrative centers on Tetsuhiko Okudera, a Kyurio from a struggling village, deeply dissatisfied with his existence and yearning to become a Nokusu. Meanwhile, his childhood friend, Yui Ikuta, is dedicated to revitalizing their impoverished community. This film explores themes of identity, societal division, and the desperate search for belonging in a fractured world.
