In The Samurai season 4, viewers are taken back to 18th century Japan to follow the thrilling adventures of Shintaro. Alongside his trusted companion Tombei, Shintaro travels the country acting as a roving samurai detective and spy. In reality, Shintaro is Matsudaira Nobuchiyo, also known as Akikusa Shintaro, played by Koichi Ose, who is the older half brother of Tokugawa Ienari, the young 11th Tokugawa shogun. Since he is the son of a concubine, he has no claim to power, but he dedicates his life to protecting his younger brother. Assuming the guise of a wandering swordsman, Shintaro works tirelessly to seek out and eliminate plots by rival feudal lords. Throughout this season, Shintaro and Tombei must battle the fierce enemies of the Shogun, including the dreaded Iga, Koga, and Fuma Ninjas. This action packed season promises suspense and drama as Shintaro fights to keep the peace and protect the shogun.
