The Paradise of Thorns tells the heart-wrenching story of Thongkam and Sek, a devoted gay couple who meticulously built a beautiful life together, including a cherished home and a thriving durian orchard in Mae Hong Son. Their dreams are brutally shattered when Sek tragically dies in an accident, exposing the harsh reality that samesex marriage is not legally recognised in Thailand. Thongkam is left with no rights to the assets he and Sek painstakingly created. Sek's mother swiftly claims everything, moving into their home with her adopted daughter Mo and gardener Jingna. The durian orchard, a profound symbol of Thongkam and Sek's love, sweat, and labor, transforms into a contested space.
