In the movie The Longest Night in Shanghai, Japanese makeup artist Mizushima Naoki, played by Motoki Masahiro, is working in Shanghai. While wandering alone at night, he is bumped by a reckless taxi driver, Lin Xi, played by Vicki Zhao. Fortunately, Naoki is unharmed. However, due to language confusion, he mistakes Lin Xi’s insistence for a free tour invitation and gets into her cab. Unbeknownst to him, Lin Xi actually plans to take him on a very roundabout tour of Shanghai with the meter running. As Naoki’s worried colleagues set off to search for him, the two strangers embark on a unique journey. Driving through the city lights, Lin Xi and Naoki slowly develop a deep bond that beautifully transcends their language gap. This charming film captures an unexpected connection during one unforgettable night.
