Narimichi soon learns that Rai is actually Yu, the long-lost sister of his trusted retainer, Sukejiro. As Yu returns to her birth village, she and Narimichi meet again near the symbolic lightning tree. Having lived outside societal structures, Yu is unaware of the rigid class system and interacts with Narimichi with refreshing honesty. Their mutual attraction blossoms into love, but the harsh realities of their vastly different social standings threaten to tear their relationship apart, forcing them to confront the profound implications of their forbidden affection.
