Set in 1950s China, The Last Steep Ascent is a touching romance inspired by a true story. The drama follows Miu Tin, played by Moses Chan, who falls in love with Koo Sunyuet, played by Maggie Cheung Hoyee, on her wedding day. Sunyuet marries Ho Sei Cheng, a wealthy herbal shop owner, but soon discovers his affair with helper Oi Tai. Following her husband's death, Sunyuet cares for a pregnant Oi Tai while facing a fierce family battle over the herbal shop. Throughout these trials, Miu Tin works at the shop, staying secretly beside her. During this volatile time, Tin confesses his love and convinces her to elope. Escaping to the countryside, the couple lives modestly. For the next fifty years, Tin hand-carves a long stair path on the mountain so his beloved wife can travel down with ease, creating an enduring symbol of devotion.
