The Kirishima Thing, also known as Kirishima Bukatsu Yamerutteyo, is a compelling Japanese drama film based on the acclaimed February 2010 omnibus novel by Ryo Asai. Set and filmed in Kochi City, Japan, the movie brilliantly adapts the original story by narrowing its focus to two high school students from vastly different social circles. Ryoya Maeda, a student from the lower class, is a dedicated member of the film club. On the other end of the social spectrum is Hiroki Kikuchi, a member of the elite class who remains a nonparticipating member of the high school baseball team. As their daily routines unfold, these two boys cross social boundaries that usually keep them apart. The Kirishima Thing offers a realistic and gripping look at youth, high school hierarchy, and the subtle connections that form between different social classes.
