The emotional music drama The Happy Life tells the story of Volcano, a college rock band reunited by tragedy. When the band leader, Sangwoo, passes away, his death brings his former bandmates back together. Seongwook, the former bass player, now works two exhausting jobs just to get by. Hyeoksu, the drummer, is a struggling single father trying to make a living as a car salesman. Then there is Giyeong, a jobless lead guitarist who dreams of reviving Volcano with himself as the new frontman. At Sangwoo’s funeral, as the old friends reminisce, Giyeong suggests they reform the band. Though the others initially spurn the idea because of their difficult lives, Giyeong refuses to give up. His persistence eventually pays off, convincing each of them to relent and setting the stage for an inspiring rock and roll reunion. This movie beautifully captures the struggle of adulthood and the enduring power of music and friendship.
