Description:

The Great Dunhuang is an epic three-part saga chronicling the dramatic rise, fall, and rebirth of the revered Dunhuang civilization across centuries of Chinese history.

The journey begins in the Northern Song Dynasty, as the Xixia King invades. With the Song unable to defend, a plea to respect Dunhuang as a Buddhist holy land fails. Brave monks make a final stand, burying precious Buddhist relics and themselves within the caves to protect their heritage.

Centuries later, during the end of the Qing Dynasty, foreign treasure hunters plunder Dunhuang's ancient art and artifacts. Local individuals courageously attempt to stop the export, only to be tragically prosecuted by their own authorities.

Finally, in the Republic era, two artists arrive, seeking inspiration. Horrified by Dunhuang's ruinous state from extensive grave robbing, they become ardent advocates. They rally the local people to protect and rebuild their magnificent ancient city, striving for its rebirth amidst historical adversity and securing its future.
