Set in the suffocating mountain-surrounded town of Hikari City in Gunma Prefecture, The Flowers of Evil is a gripping psychological drama adapted from the manga by Shuzo Oshimi. Middle school student Kasuga Takao copes with his stagnant everyday life through Charles Baudelaire's poetry. However, his world turns upside down after an impulsive mistake: he steals the gym uniform of his admired classmate, Saeki Nanako. Unbeknownst to him, Nakamura Sawa, a problematic classmate, witnesses the incident. Nakamura blackmails Kasuga into a contract, forcing him to comply with her perverse demands. As Kasuga sinks deeper into despair, his identity collapses. His torment intensifies when he starts dating Saeki, tearing him between his genuine feelings of love and his moral guilt. Caught between Nakamura and Saeki, Kasuga is pushed to his absolute limits, leading to a major incident at a local festival.
