In the poignant drama The Face of Jizo, Mitsue, played by Rie Miyazawa, is a young librarian deeply scarred by the trauma of surviving the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Haunted by the tragedy that took most of her loved ones, Mitsue finds solace in her partially repaired bombed-out home, sharing her deepest fears and dreams with her father, Takezo, portrayed by Yoshio Harada. Surprisingly, Takezo is a ghost, though he looks and acts entirely alive to her. Free from earthly worries, his spirit is solely focused on helping his daughter heal and move forward. When Kinoshita, a shy researcher played by Tadanobu Asano, enters Mitsue's life seeking her help with his research on the Hiroshima bombing, a gentle romance begins to bloom. With Takezo's spiritual guidance, Mitsue must confront her painful past to embrace a hopeful future and open her heart to Kinoshita's affection.
