The Black Company tells the story of Mizuno Gota, an aspiring musician who finds himself in a quandary when his part-time convenience store job suddenly closes down. Walking down the street, he notices a newly opened hamburger shop called Yankee Burger. When Mizuno enters, the owner, Ozeki Katsuya, asks him for honest feedback on the food. Mizuno condescendingly tells Ozeki that the burger completely lacks punch. Instead of getting angry, Ozeki unexpectedly offers him a full-time job at the shop. Dreaming of putting his worried mother at ease and one day driving a Ferrari, Mizuno decides to stop living as a struggling part-time worker. To secure this life-changing opportunity, he agrees to take the company entrance exam.
