That Summer chronicles the journey of young Lava, sent by his mother to live with his uncle near the beach. Upon his arrival, Lava is immediately burdened with demanding work. His summer takes an unexpected turn when he discovers a man washed ashore. At the hospital, Dr. Wut diagnoses the man with amnesia. Lava’s uncle promptly volunteers Lava as the stranger's caretaker. Seizing this chance, Lava names the man Wave and cleverly reassigns all his own arduous duties to his new charge. However, Wave proves to be surprisingly fussy and entirely inept at manual labor, strongly hinting at a privileged and pampered past.
