In the movie Switching Goodbye Me, Kazuo Saito moves from Onomichi with his mother after his parents divorce, leaving his girlfriend behind. At his new school, he unexpectedly reunites with his childhood friend, Kazumi. Although initially embarrassed by her memories and annoyed by her boyfriend, Hiroshi Yamamoto, Kazuo quickly rebuilds a comfortable bond with her. After visiting Kazumi's family soba noodle restaurant, they walk to the Lonely Watering Place. An accidental fall into the water triggers a body switch. With Kazuo's mind in Kazumi's body and Kazumi's mind in Kazuo's body, they return home to their rattled families. Overwhelmed and upset, they both flee. To handle the chaos, Kazuo tells a sobbing Kazumi that they must play each other's roles for now.
