Smooth Talker follows the story of Hau Tak Sze, a dedicated court mediator who also runs his late father's social club. During a mediation case, he crosses paths with Mo Sui Yee, a woman dealing with a messy divorce from her unfaithful husband. To rebuild her life, Sui Yee moves in with her aunt, Lam Ah Lui, only to discover that her ex-husband's mistress lives in the very same building. Spotting Tak Sze visiting the property often, Sui Yee mistakenly suspects that he is plotting with the mistress to steal her divorce settlement. However, her perspective shifts when she secures a new job at Au Yeung Ai's law office. Because Tak Sze is best friends with Au Yeung Ai, he frequently drops by the office. As Sui Yee settles into her new career, she begins to see Tak Sze in a different light, realizing he is actually a kind, diligent professional rather than a schemer.
