In the martial arts drama Shanghai Affairs, Donnie Yen stars as Tong Shan, a dedicated doctor who returns from Britain to Shanghai. He opens a clinic in an impoverished village to treat citizens who cannot afford medical care. However, peace is threatened when the Axe Gang, led by Yue Lo Chat, arrives to demolish the village for a casino. Tong and his loyal assistant Bond, played by Ruco Chan, stand up to protect the villagers, sparking a fierce rivalry. The tension escalates when Tong treats Yue Siu Sin, played by Athena Chu, the mute younger sister of the gang leader. After Tong successfully cures her, they grow closer, further angering the anti-Western medicine gang boss. The story takes a dark turn when kidnapped children are found dead without internal organs. Investigating the horror, Tong discovers that his own master, Lui Mung, and Yue are the masterminds. Framed for the crimes, Tong faces a brutal persecution as he fights to survive.
