In 1664, the Qing dynasty establishes control over China and bans martial arts. Led by Prince Dokado, the military hunts down practitioners, targeting Martial Village and the rebel Red Spears Society. To defend the innocent, villagers Han Zhibang and Wu Yuanying follow Fu Qingzhu to Mount Heaven. There, Master Huiming gives special weapons to them and his four students, Chu Zhaonan, Yang Yuncong, Xin Longzi, and Mulang, forming the heroic Seven Swords.

As they fight the oppressive government, the group faces tragic romances and dangerous missions. Chu Zhaonan suffers heartbreak when his love Luzhu sacrifices herself, while Yang Yuncong falls for Nalan Minghui, an enemy general's pregnant daughter. Ultimately, the Seven Swords reunite for a climactic battle against Dokado on the Qiantang River bank. Although victorious, the immense trauma, betrayal, and losses break the legendary fellowship apart forever.
