The movie Santamaria follows Ildo, once a promising Seoul police detective who is now a lowly traffic cop in his hometown of Yeongdeok. His mundane job of issuing speed tickets to reckless drivers takes a personal turn when he targets Hocheol, his former best friend turned taxi driver. To understand their bitter grudge, one must look back fifteen years. Back then, they both chased the same girl, and Ildo won, leaving Hocheol heartbroken. However, during their military service, Hocheol became Ildo's superior officer, subjecting him to humiliating treatment. Now, the tables have turned once again. Armed with police authority in a small town with very few cars, Ildo sees the perfect chance to settle their old score. With plenty of time on his hands, he tracks down Hocheol's taxi and penalizes him multiple times a day, reigniting a hilarious and petty lifelong rivalry.
