Set in the mid-1820s, Rosy Business is a gripping historical drama that begins when a natural disaster ruins the rice fields of Nantong. To save starving citizens, mayor Hong Chiwing uses military food supplies, leading to his family’s execution sentence. His daughter, Hong Poyin, escapes and hides as a maid named Hong Pokei in Prince Wai’s mansion. Twenty years later in Wuxi, Pokei reunites with her former betrothed, wealthy rice merchant Chiang Kiu. After being exposed by Kiu's wife, Yan Fungyee, Pokei is saved by Kiu and becomes his fourth wife. Recognizing her wisdom, Kiu entrusts his business to her. Pokei must navigate fierce family power struggles, particularly from Fungyee and her son Bitman. While guiding Kiu’s intelligent second son, Bitching, to be the successor, Pokei encounters the vengeful Chai Kau. Eventually, Pokei and Chai Kau form a deep friendship and alliance, utilizing their wits to protect the family business through locust disasters and the Taiping Rebellion.
