In the psychological thriller RoomMate, based on the novel Roommate by Aya Imamura published in August 1997 by ChuokoronShinsha Inc., Harumi Hagiwara finds her life taking a dark turn after a hospitalizing accident. While recovering, Harumi forms a close bond with her nurse, Reiko Nishimura. Upon her discharge, the two decide to move in together. However, Harumi soon begins to witness a series of mysterious events after noticing Reiko's strange behavior. Harumi's anxiety escalates into absolute terror when Reiko starts referring to herself as Mari, behaving like an entirely different person. Fearing for her own safety, she watches the situation spiral out of control. Before long, this disturbing living arrangement develops into a shocking case of murder. This suspenseful adaptation masterfully explores the terror of sharing a home with a dangerous stranger whose identity is rapidly fracturing.
