Renai Gikyoku is a clever love comedy directed by Kokami Shoji, the head of the Third Stage Theatre Company. Based on his own popular play, this film features a unique three-level structure that seamlessly weaves together reality, a play-within-a-play, and a play-within-a-play-within-a-play. The story centers on Mayumi Fukada Kyoko, a famous playwright facing a massive creative block. Although she is assigned to write a script for a special TV drama, she cannot write a single word. When a mediocre and forgettable TV producer named Mukai Shiina Kippei presses her for the draft, she presents him with an unreasonable demand. She issues a desperate ultimatum: if he wants the script, he must agree to go out with her.
