Set against the backdrop of the notoriously turbulent Qian Tang River, also known as the Raksha River, this film explores the resilient spirit of a community constantly battling devastating tidal disasters. For generations, people from Shadi have endured this relentless struggle, losing precious arable land to the powerful currents. Jiang Ping Yuan, a young man having survived an attempted suicide, is swept by the tide into Taoyuan Village. There, he encounters Lao Jin, obsessed with his dreams; Fu Bo, rebellious and old; and Xiao Mei, yearning for a brighter future. He witnesses their unwavering determination to protect their remaining land. Despite repeated failures and slim hope, they relentlessly build embankments to block the relentless tide. Their newly constructed barrier faces its ultimate test when a powerful typhoon strikes. After the storm subsides, Jiang Ping Yuan, covered in mud, makes a profound discovery: the legendary tidal tree.
