Set in the early 20th century during the oppressive Japanese colonial rule of Korea, the martial arts action film Pyongyang Nalpharam follows Jeong Taek. He is a master of Pyongyang Nalpharam, a unique form of the ancient Taekkyeon martial art perfected on Mount Taeseong near Pyongyang. Jeong Taek returns home one day to a tragedy: his father has been poisoned by Mieko, a Korean-born Japanese woman who claims the elder was responsible for her own father's death. Complicating matters, Jeong Taek initially mistakes this woman for his childhood sweetheart, So Gyeon. However, personal grief is set aside when Japanese forces lay claim to the sacred texts containing the deepest secrets of Pyongyang Nalpharam. Forced into action, Jeong Taek must use his martial arts skills to defend his legacy and protect the sacred knowledge from falling into the wrong hands.
