In the heartfelt drama Pushing Hands, Master Chu, a retired Chinese Tai Chi master, moves to Westchester, New York, to live with his son Alex, his American daughter-in-law Martha, and their young son Jeremy. While the family tries to adjust to this new living arrangement, tension quickly builds. Martha, currently working on her second novel, suffers from severe writer's block, which she attributes directly to Master Chu's overwhelming presence in the household. Caught in the middle of this domestic friction, Alex faces an uphill battle to keep his family together.
