The movie Pool follows Sayo, a university student who travels to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to visit her mother, Kyoko. Four years prior, Kyoko left Japan, leaving her mother and Sayo behind. Upon arrival, Sayo is disappointed to be picked up by Ichio, an employee, rather than her mother. At Kyoko's guest house, Sayo finds her mother unchanged, stubbornly living her own way. Kyoko has formed a makeshift family with a Thai boy named Bee and a mysterious Japanese woman named Kikuko. Sayo initially struggles to accept her mother's happiness with these strangers. However, during her six-day stay around a beautiful, sparkling pool surrounded by lush greenery, Sayo's perspective begins to shift. As she witnesses the close bonds among the group, something deep and transformative develops in Sayo's mind before she heads back home.
