Description:

Pachinko unfolds an expansive, multi-generational saga rooted in early 20th century Korea under Japanese rule. The story begins with young Kim Sun Ja, born and raised in Busan, who falls in love with a powerful man whose full background remains a mystery to her. A compassionate church priest, Baek Isak, learning of her predicament, offers to marry her. This decision leads Sun Ja to move to Japan, where she faces profound challenges and difficult times as a Korean immigrant navigating an unfamiliar land.

Decades later, in 1989 New York, the ambitious Baek Solomon strives for corporate success. His company aims to build a new hotel in Tokyo, but a Korean woman adamantly refuses to sell her land, crucial for the project. Baek Solomon volunteers to travel to Tokyo, determined to persuade her while also reconnecting with his family, linking threads of their shared past and future.
