In the sci-fi romance drama Our Brief Eternity, Tokyo is devastated by Emanon, a mysterious new virus that causes those infected to lose all memories of the person most important to them. Amidst this brewing global pandemic, Teru, a lazy young man, unexpectedly reunites with his ex-girlfriend, Mio. To his heartbreak, Mio has contracted the virus and completely forgotten who he is. Despite this cruel twist of fate, the two begin to rebuild their connection from scratch. However, as Tokyo plunges into utter chaos and society begins to shatter, Teru is also infected by Emanon, losing his memories of Mio in return. With the world in turmoil, the two find themselves struggling to hold onto a love that keeps slipping away. Ultimately, fleeing the ruins of Tokyo, Teru and Mio end up in the quiet countryside where they once shared a past, attempting to find peace and rediscover their bond in a broken world.
