The heartwarming film Minna No Ie follows Naosuke and Tamiko, a happily married couple who have recently purchased land in the countryside to build their dream house. Hoping for a fresh look, they hire Yanagisawa, Tamiko’s university junior and an interior designer, to handle the design. However, because Yanagisawa is not a qualified architect, they must ask Tamiko’s father, an experienced builder, to secure building consent and construct the home. Tension quickly arises as Yanagisawa, a modernist heavily influenced by American architecture, clashes with Tamiko’s father, a strict traditionalist. The two stubborn men immediately come into conflict over the house design. After navigating countless disagreements and compromises, the designer and the builder slowly begin to understand each other’s distinct way of thinking. Minna No Ie is a delightful story of family, compromise, and the art of building a home together.
