Description:

Memories of Matsuko is a poignant drama that follows Sho, a young teenager living alone in Tokyo. His life takes an unexpected turn when his father pays him a surprise visit carrying a white box. Inside are the ashes of his Aunt Matsuko, who was recently found murdered by a river in Akawara. Since his father must return to their hometown, he tasks Sho with visiting his late aunt's apartment to clean up whatever remains. Upon arriving, Sho is shocked to find a filthy, run-down home overflowing with trash bags and junk collected over the years. Having never met Matsuko and knowing absolutely nothing about her, Sho begins the daunting task of clearing her space. As he sifts through her forgotten belongings and speaks with her former neighbors, he begins to piece together the puzzle of her existence. What unfolds is a deeply moving journey into the past, revealing a woman whose life was filled with profound tragedy and heartbreak.
