Lifting King Kong is a heartwarming sports drama about Lee JiBong, played by Lee BeomSoo, a former 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics bronze medalist for weightlifting. A careerending injury forces him into early retirement, and with no support from the Korean Olympic Committee, he becomes destitute. Down and out, he ends up passing out flyers for a shady nightclub. His life changes when his former coach convinces him to start a coaching career at a high school in Boseong, a rural region at the southwest tip of the Korean peninsula. There, he forms a weightlifting team comprised of a ragtag group of outcasts. Through coaching, he finds a new purpose while helping these youth overcome their struggles. This inspirational story highlights the power of hope and mentorship.
