Leaving on the 15th Spring is a touching Japanese coming-of-age drama centered on Yuna, a young girl living on a remote Ryukyu island. Her days are split between schoolwork and managing the household for her father, a stoic sugar cane farmer who has been mysteriously ostracized by his own family. Like many teenagers on the island, Yuna faces a major life transition as she prepares to move to the big island of Okinawa to complete her education. Before her departure, she must lead her local traditional music circle in a farewell concert. Starring pop sensation Miyoshi Ayaka, who showcases her talents singing and playing the traditional Japanese sanshin, the film beautifully captures Yuna's emotional journey. Directed by Yasuhiro Yoshida in close collaboration with the locals of Minamodaito, this poignant film explores the delicate balance between preserving ancient traditions and embracing progress. It is a heartfelt, restrained movie about a young girl on the cusp of adulthood.
