In the captivating drama Kuu Neru Futari Sumu Futari, Machida Ritsuko and Nonoyama Shuichi, affectionately known as Nonchan, are two thirtysomethings who have been living together in their apartment for the past eight years. Their stable life takes an unexpected turn one day while Nonchan is out fishing. Ritsuko invites her good friend Niinuma Mina over for some girls talk. During their chat, Mina asks Ritsuko if they are planning to get married, to which Ritsuko replies that he has yet to propose.

Unbeknownst to them, Nonchan has just returned and overhears this revelation from outside the door. Shocked by what he hears, Nonchan becomes moody and begins to question their entire relationship.
