Description:

The movie KANIKOSEN tells a harrowing yet surprisingly satirical story set aboard a Japanese crab ship. Equipped with a cannery facility, the vessel is a floating hell where workers endure pitiful conditions, minimum wages, and malnutrition under the brutal superintendent, Asakawa Hidetoshi Nishijima. Driven to despair by this inhumane treatment, a worker named Shinjo Ryuhei Matsuda convinces his crewmates that their only hope for wealth lies in the next life. This leads to a mass suicide attempt that unexpectedly spirals into a comedy of errors. Seizing a chance, Shinjo escapes the ship and is rescued by a Soviet vessel. Boarding this new ship, he is astonished by a fair social system entirely different from his previous nightmare. Realizing that a better world is possible, Shinjo decides to return to the Kanikosen, determined to rescue his fellow workers and fight for their freedom.
