Kamikaze Girls is a vibrant film that follows the unlikely friendship of two completely different girls. Momoko, played by Kyoko Fukada, is an ardent loner born in the Yakuza heartland of Shimotsuma Ibaraki. Feeling she was born two centuries too late, Momoko daydreams of Versailles and dedicates herself to the lavish, doll-like Rococo Lolita fashion. Her solitary life is disrupted when she meets Ichiko, played by cult J-rock icon Anna Tsuchiya. Ichiko is a rebellious Bosozoku motorcycle-gang member of the Ponytails speed tribe, riding a customized fifty C.C. scooter and wearing decorated Tokkofuku boiler suits. During one languid summer on the colorful streets of Tokyo, the paths of these two incongruous girls cross. What follows is a wild journey where Rameau meets the Japanese underbelly. In this stylish adventure, asses are kicked and garments are embroidered as an unexpected bond forms between a Lolita-fashion devotee and a tough biker girl.
