Jigoku Shoujo centers on the chilling legend of the Hell Correspondence, an elusive website said to appear only at midnight. Users who type a name into its interface summon the mysterious hell girl, Ai Enma, who condemns the designated person straight to hell. However, this terrifying power comes with a steep price: the user themselves will be dragged to hell after their own life ends. The narrative follows Miho, a high school student increasingly worried about her friend, Haruka. After auditioning for a popular rock band, Haruka begins behaving erratically, seemingly caught in an insidious scheme.
