Insects in the Backyard explores the challenging lives of two teenagers, Johnny and Jennifer, as they navigate adolescence under the unconventional care of their older sister, Tanya. Tanya, an overdressed transvestite with excessive habits, becomes a constant source of embarrassment, intensifying the siblings' yearning for independence. Both Johnny and Jennifer pursue romance and autonomy, making significant mistakes in their quest to break away from their family home. Johnny finds himself drawn into male prostitution, a desperate attempt to earn money and perhaps diminish his own self-esteem. Jennifer, too, makes regrettable choices, leaving both siblings feeling deeply dissatisfied with their paths. The family dynamic further deteriorates when Johnny discovers Tanya trying to seduce one of his friends, setting off a downward spiral for her as well.
