Description:

Hula Girls is a heartwarming true story set in 1960s Japan. Faced with a devastating recession as oil replaces charcoal as the primary energy source, the Joban charcoal mine in Iwaki city must adapt or perish. Their bold plan: to transform the area into a vibrant tourist destination, leveraging local hot springs to establish the Joban Hawaiian Center spa resort and theme park. A crucial component of this ambitious project is the formation of a hula dance troop. However, this unconventional idea is met with widespread skepticism and fierce opposition from the conservative local community. The film powerfully chronicles the journey and struggles of the determined young women who bravely choose to join the dance troop, defying societal expectations and working tirelessly to bring their community's new dream to life.
